Stellar Foundation Sponsors "Walk a Mile in Their Shoes"
-5K Run and One-Mile Walk to Benefit Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 25, 2009) - Stellar, an international design, engineering, construction and mechanical services firm, is the presenting sponsor for the Sulzbacher Center's third annual "Walk a Mile in Their Shoes" fundraiser, a 5K run and one-mile walk through downtown Jacksonville. UNF President John Delaney and State Senator Tony Hill, (D) Jacksonville, are serving as co-chairs of this year's Walk.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 and will feature a 5K run and one-mile walk starting and ending at the Sulzbacher Center's campus in downtown Jacksonville. The 5K run begins at 9:00 a.m. and the one-mile walk will start at 10:00 a.m. Community participation in this event has grown each year, and in 2009, more than seven hundred people are expected to attend because of the inclusion of a ChampionChip-timed 5K run managed by 1st Place Sports.
The YMCA has partnered with Sulzbacher to participate in a health fair at the event, where walk/run participants will be able to seek advice from YMCA and Sulzbacher Center health professionals. Partner agencies on the route will also include Community Connections of Jacksonville, Inc., Catholic Charities, Volunteers in Medicine, Salvation Army, Downtown Ecumenical Services Council (DESC), Success Suits You, Work Source and Job Junction.
"Stellar is proud to support organizations like Sulzbacher Center who work to help Jacksonville families going through tough economic times," said Mike Santarone, chair of "Walk a Mile in Their Shoes" and Chief Operating Officer of Stellar. "Now more than ever, as home foreclosures and layoffs in our area continue to rise, people who are struggling need our help."
The Sulzbacher Center is Northeast Florida's only provider of comprehensive services for homeless men, women and children. Their mission is to empower homeless and at-risk individuals to achieve a better life through a full range of services, both directly and in collaboration with community partners. "With the generous support of community partners like Stellar, the dedicated team at the Sulzbacher Center can continue to accomplish our ambitious goal to restore stability to the lives of homeless men, women and children," said Sulzbacher Center President and CEO Audrey McKibbin Moran.
