JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2009) - Stellar, a design, engineering, construction and mechanical services firm, and United States Cold Storage (USCS), the nation's leading public refrigerated warehouse company, have partnered to grant a wish to a child with a life-threatening illness. The two companies presented a $3,000 check to Wish Upon a Star on Dec. 17, 2008.
Wish Upon A Star is a non-profit, law enforcement effort designed to grant the wishes of children afflicted with high-risk and life-threatening illnesses. The organization's services are available to children throughout the state of California, ages 3 through 18 years. The average cost of a wish is approximately $2,500 to $3,000. Wish Upon A Star has granted more than 1,800 wishes in its 26 years of service. The organization is funded strictly through donations.
"For more than 20 years, Stellar and USCS have designed and built facilities across the nation, including three in California in 2008 and 2009," said Allison Korman, Stellar's director of public relations. "We believe strongly in giving back to the people who live in the towns and cities we serve. We're excited to support such a worthwhile organization in California."
Stellar completed USCS's phase-three expansion to its Tulare, Calif., north distribution center in August 2008. Stellar is currently building USCS's new distribution center in Turlock, Calif., which it expects to complete in July. In addition, the company is building USCS's phase-two expansion to its Fresno, Calif., refrigerated warehouse, which will be complete this summer.
The Stellar Foundation, created in 2006, seeks out organizations to partner with that share its core vision. The receiving organizations have a common thread: they are civic and community service programs that address vital community needs and maintain a commitment to improving the quality of life of those they serve with measurable and reported outcomes.
"We're proud to partner with Stellar to grant a wish for a child with a life-threatening illness. There is no greater gift of the human spirit than to give to a child," said Rod Noll of USCS. "Having recently built several facilities in California, we're excited to give back to such a worthy organization benefiting children in the state."
